The sixth International Conference on Rabies in West Africa (RIWA) is scheduled for Abuja, Nigeria from the 12th - 16th August 2019. The forum offers sub-regional delegates and stakeholders from governmental agencies, the private sector and higher education institutions ample opportunity to deliberate on the theme, “Actualizing one-health collaboration towards achieving a people without rabies by 2030.” Participants are expected from Anglophone and Francophone West African countries, strategic partners from Cameroon, Congo, France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Caribbean and beyond. Scientific papers and technical reports on rabies surveillance at the human-animal interface will be presented from Benin, Cameroon, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Gambia and Togo. The forum will review and update dog population estimates, annual human deaths due to rabies, vaccination compliance, spatial and spatio-temporal coverage of dogs and humans. The conference will assess progress of one health action at the national and regional levels for achieving stepwise elimination of rabies by 2030.
